Embed this timer
Paste this code into your site or blog. It uses the interval and break length you set above.
How it works
- Click Start. The timer counts down your work interval, 20 minutes by default.
- When the interval ends, the page dims and shows the break. Look at something at least 20 feet (6 m) away until the countdown ends, and blink slowly and fully: close your lids, pause, open.
- Turn on a notification or a soft sound if the tab is in the background. The browser asks for permission only when you tick the notification box.
- The timer uses the clock, not a tick count, so it stays correct when the tab is in the background. Your settings stay in the page URL, so you can bookmark them.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What is the 20-20-20 rule?
Every 20 minutes, look at something at least 20 feet (about 6 m) away for at least 20 seconds. The American Academy of Ophthalmology recommends it for screen work.
Why does the break ask me to blink?
People blink less often, and less completely, while they look at a screen. The break is a good moment for slow, full blinks: close your lids fully, pause, open.
Does it work in a background tab?
Yes. The timer compares the clock with the time the break is due, so it does not drift. Browsers can delay background timers a little, so a notification can arrive a few seconds late.
Can I put the timer on my own site?
Yes. Copy the embed code below the timer. It shows the timer in an iframe with a small credit link.
Is this medical advice?
No. It is a reminder tool. If you have eye pain, blurred vision or headaches that do not go away, see an eye doctor.
