If your Drupal sites live in DDEV, DevWorkspace Pro gives you a desktop UI for it, plus an editor, Git, GitHub and AI agents in the same window. You can create fresh Drupal 11 and Drupal 10 sites from the app, and each project carries its DDEV type as a badge (for example Drupal 11).

Not on DDEV? A Drupal folder still opens. It shows as a PHP project and gets the core features and the Composer tools.

Core features every project gets

Every Drupal site, with or without DDEV, gets:

  • Files editor with PHP IntelliSense, ⌘+P and project search
  • Git Changes, GitHub issues and Actions, and Send to AI
  • AI sessions with resume, terminal tabs and Focus Pad
  • The ⌘+K project switcher, uptime monitoring and Remote SSH

Extras for Drupal

Area What you get
Stack features Drupal create flow with a Version choice, DDEV type badge, Run card with Composer scripts, PHP recipes on DDEV, composer.lock security scan
DDEV Start, stop, services, database, PHP version, Xdebug, add-ons, logs
Other runtimes Docker Compose services, Local PHP

From new site to merged PR

Create or import a site

Click New Project, select Drupal and pick Drupal 11 or Drupal 10 under Version. DDEV is the default in step 2. You can set the PHP version, web server, database and document root on the Web and Database tabs, or leave everything on DDEV default.

The app then runs composer create-project drupal/recommended-project:^11 and starts the containers. A single notification walks through Configuring DDEV, Starting containers, Installing Drupal and Ready. If you want to see the commands first, tick Review the setup commands before they run.

Already have a site? Drag its folder onto the window. A folder with .ddev/config.yaml keeps its name, type and PHP version.

Run it

Click Start. The Services card lists each container with its ports, image, CPU and memory, and you can add Solr, Redis or another service from Recipes › Addons. The Database card has the connection details ready to paste into your client.

Hand a task to an AI agent

Press ⌘+J and describe what you need, say "Write a custom block plugin that lists the latest five articles". Claude Code, Codex or OpenCode starts in the site folder. Restart the app and the session is still there under Resume, conversation intact.

Ship through GitHub

Review the diff in Git › Changes, commit, and push from a terminal tab. If CI goes red in Git › Actions, click Send failure to AI and your agent gets the failed step along with its log.

Built for Drupal work

Scratchpad that boots your site (DDEV)

Run PHP inside your booted Drupal site with ⌘+Enter. $container and the \Drupal:: helpers are ready to use, and query results render as a Table or a Dump. The PHP worker stays warm between runs and restarts when you change code in your custom modules.

Recipes (DDEV)

The panel offers Addons, Cloudflare Tunnel, Additional Database, Rector, Prettier PHP and Laravel Pint. NPM Dependencies appears when your theme has a package.json. Every recipe shows its steps before it runs. Support for the PHP recipes outside DDEV is in progress.

Security scan for core and contrib

Health › Security reads composer.lock. That covers Drupal core, contrib modules and their PHP libraries, checked against the same Packagist advisory data that composer audit uses. If your theme's npm, pnpm, Yarn or Bun lockfile sits in the project folder, the scan reads that too.

Xdebug, logs and database switching (DDEV)

  • Xdebug: one button turns it on and off for the project, and the menu writes a VS Code launch.json.
  • Logs: stream web, db or any other service with a level filter. Each entry has Send to AI.
  • Database type: move a site between MariaDB, MySQL and PostgreSQL. The app exports the data, updates .ddev/config.yaml, restarts and imports.

Fits the tools you already use

The app reads ddev list, so the sites DDEV already knows about show up straight away. It runs your installed ddev, composer and docker, and logs every action in the Commands Log so you can see the exact ddev command it ran. Drush still works from a terminal tab with ddev drush, and IDE opens the site in PhpStorm or VS Code.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is DevWorkspace Pro a GUI for DDEV?

For DDEV projects, yes. You can start and stop the site and manage services, add-ons, the database, the PHP version, Xdebug and logs. You also get an editor, Git, GitHub, AI sessions and a PHP runner. The app calls the ddev command on your computer, so the CLI keeps working as before.

Which Drupal versions can I create?

Drupal 11 and Drupal 10. The app runs composer create-project drupal/recommended-project with the major version you select. Existing Drupal 7 and Drupal 6 DDEV projects import with their DDEV type.

Can I run Drupal without DDEV?

Yes. Select Docker Compose, Local PHP or Other in step 2. Local PHP runs php -S localhost:8000 -t web web/.ht.router.php. A folder without DDEV shows as a PHP project, because the app finds composer.json.

Does the Scratchpad know Drupal?

In a DDEV project, yes. The Scratchpad boots Drupal, so $container and static helpers such as \Drupal::entityTypeManager() are available. It restarts the PHP worker when your custom modules change.
